DIY Frozen Dog Treats

How to make your own “Frosty Paws”! Great for the upcoming summer months. My dogs LOVE these.

Ingredients:

– yogurt (I usually just buy plain or vanilla)
– peanut butter
– assortment of other flavors, some options are: ripe banana, baby food, flavored gravy, canned dog food, etc.
– ice cube tray

Directions:

1. Mix ~2 cups yogurt and ~3/4 cup peanut butter into a large mixing bowl. You can also use an electric mixer, but it’s not hard to do it by hand.

2. Add whatever other flavorings you want. I just used a ripe banana.

3. Mix until mostly smooth, there maystill be some chunks of banana, that’s ok as long as they’re pretty squishy.

4. If you are using regular ice cube trays, you can just spoon the mixture into the tray. If you are using funky shaped ones like I do, it’ll be a bit more difficult to put the mixture into the shapes. So what I do is use a rubber spatula to put the mixture into a thick, gallon sized ziploc bag, making sure it’s completely sealed at the top.

5. Cut a SMALL hole in one corner of the bag, and slowly squeeze mixture into the ice tray, like you would if you were icing a cupcake. Sometimes you may get a chunk of banana clogging the hole. When this happens, gently pinch the corner to squeeze it out.

6. When full, tap the ice tray on a counter to level out each mold. Add additional mixture where needed. Pop it in the freezer and wait a few hours.

7. Let dogs lick the bowl.

8. Once they are frozen, I put them in tupperware containers and store in the freezer. When I give them to my dogs, I just put them down outside or on a hardwood/laminate floor, so you can clean up any mess they make. You can also put them on a plate, but I don’t really see the need to do that.

Enjoy!
